Cesky Krumlov Restaurants

Any recommendations for good food in Krumlov? Seems like a lot of tourist traps serving indifferent food. Maybe stick to Pizza?

We did not find any great restaurants there when we visited. IMO Cesky is one giant tourist trap, and if I had it to do over, I would erase that part of our itinerary.

I loved Cesky Krumlov and found it charming. I think in order to really experience it, you need to spend the night, which we did.

We ate at two different restaurants and both were excellent. The first place we stopped at for lunch was called the KRCMS v Satlavski, and it offered a selection of foods cooked over an open fire. It looked promising so we stopped in and proceeded to have one of the best meals ever. We each ordered the mixed grill, which consisted of a piece of chicken, beef and pork grilled over the fireplace (we could actually see the process), and served with potatoes and sour cream, and the best potato pancake I have ever had. Coupled with a beer, it was the perfect meal.

We ended the evening in a local pub called the Hospoda Na louzi, which someone had recommended. The place was jamming and was packed with loud, beer-swigging young people but we enjoyed the atmosphere. The pub was worth it for the beer alone – Eddington’s, from a local brewery – but the food was very tasty, too. I had roast duck with dumplings and my friend ordered sirloin stuffed with ham and cheese. We shared a table with a couple from Munich, so I got to practice my German, which was fun. :)

Thanks for the information. Have to say a hotdog by the river was my best meal in Cesky Krumlov. Had a great time nevertheless. Took an inflatable kayak tour for a couple of hours down the river. Walked through the castle at dusk, few people were around, it was magical. Today visited the imperial apartments on a tour & walked up through the gardens to a lily filled pond, all good. I’m a picky eater, I eat meat, but the meat heavy cuisine is a turnoff for me. Been traveling for a month now in the region & craving some good salads. Leaving for Wolfgang area tomorrow, hopefully more greens & less ham.😂

A day and evening in Cesky Krumlov was worthwhile in particular for a tour of the baroque theater at the castle. It's the best preserved baroque theatre in Europe. We also enjoyed a visit to the Egon Schiele Art Centrum. Our dinner at the Don Julius restaurant was very good and representative Czech food - grilled fresh trout and parsley potatoes suits me perfectly. The well-preserved town itself is very picturesque but the bear moat really triggers some people.

I imagine it's personal experience, but we found even the walk-up food counters to be staffed by pleasant people who were happy to be working with tourists. We didn't get a lot of limp, pre-prepared stuff, even the spiral national pastries. No, it's not a Michelin Destination. But we enjoyed our (expensive, car service) full-day runout from Prague.

For me also, a theater professional, the Court Theater was a must see. It's hard to get on the only (!) English-language tour of the day without an early arrival and a driver or guide to talk to the Oma selling the tickets. (Yes, I know that's not Czech ... ) We didn't have time for outdoor recreation, and I don't know that I would go so far for a plastic kayak rental ... . I thought the Castle (Chateau, really) interior was underwhelming. But I guess you have to do it. I'm glad we made the effort to get to CK.

Too long ago for our food report, my thermal paper receipts have faded away! But I remember a perfectly satisfactory riverside lunch, with fresh, hot local food. It's hard to use Rick's idea "walk two blocks away from the main drag before you eat, when you're in CK.

After 3 nights here, can’t make any recommendations myself for dining except for Kolektiv, a coffee shop. Had a good coffee & ham & cheese croissant.

We stayed three nights and loved Cesky Krumlov. We had a lovely early dinner at the River terrace of the hotel Dvorak with a memorable appetizer of fresh melon with cheese and prosciutto. We also enjoyed our meal at Krcma v satlavske ulici. Definitely meat-centric there. We liked our lunch at Svjek restaurant and we had some pretty good pizza at, I think, Pizzeria Latran. I wouldn't say the food was the main reason we were there, but we were perfectly well satisfied and spent our time canoeing all day one day and touring around on the other.
