Český Krumlov - Google Maps does not show bus or train service

I normally use Google Maps to show me the regional bus and train to and from a destination. It shows that it takes 25 minutes by bus (RegioJet) to go from Prague to Český Krumlov. That is wrong. It doesn't show any public transportation options to get from Vienna to Český Krumlov. Something is wrong - I know there must be train service to and from Český Krumlov. Is there another way to find bus and train service?

Edit: on regiojet's website, all the routes and times from Vienna to Český Krumlov have transfers in Prague! What am I missing?

Another edit: OK, I think I might be starting to understand what is going on. I googled "where is the train station in Český Krumlov", because when you go on Google Maps, you can see the train tracks north of the town, but you can't see an icon for a train station on the map. So when I googled that, it said the train station is temporily closed. Does anyone have more details about this?

You should take any suggestions from Google maps with a pinch of salt. And if it suggests that it takes 25 minutes by bus that seems like a reason to abandon Google maps. Use www.cd.cz instead to find trains. Or www.oebb.at for trains to Austria.

Thank you for the resources, Badger!

I tried cd.cz on the date I need and it won't let me purchase a ticket online - I have to call or email. That's weird.

We used the RS suggested shared van service when were we in the area pre-COVID. The drivers were professional, had great English, prompt and dependable. It was nice to have door-to-service as a little break from public transportation. I'll check the name of the service later and add, but it's in the RS guidebook, and I highly recommend it.

The bahn website said the same thing - that they can't sell me a ticket from Vienna to Český Krumlov, even though the train service exists and the ticket exists.

When are you planning to travel? Are you trying to buy a ticket too far in advance?

We also used the van to Linz train station. (don't remember for sure but if it was in the Guidebook chances are that's what we used). Good service.

I have read that the train is slower than the bus. Are you spending the night? We also used Rick's recommended car service, as a one-day runout from Prague. That's not a matter of "I only fly-private!", it's that this is a remote, little serviced destination. But there are busses. Some people are also interested in the beer city on the way, or the Three T's towns.

Tim, I would like to spend one night there on the way to Prague. I will look into the shuttle, but the one I saw that was mentioned states that a minimum of two tickets is usually required:
"The minimum number of passengers is 2, however if you're traveling solo, we'll most likely be able to offer you an existing ride to join for this price". I don't love things that are not "firm", and so for that reason, I was more interested in a bus or a train service.
That was from ckshuttle.cz

Badger, I want to book on October 10th, and no site will let me (so far). I just tried the bahn website for the same trip but in July, and bahn won't sell me the ticket. Then I tried for the same trip but for this Friday, and it won't sell me the ticket.

I think that ckshuttle.cz will be my best bet. At least they will sell me a ticket! Would anyone be willing to test out some of the other rail or bus websites that have been mentioned in this thread for the date of October 10 from Vienna to Český Krumlov to see if it's just me or if there is some weird thing going on?

Just took the Flix bus from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, about 8 Euros plus 1,30 Euro to reserve seat. Took 3 hours, fairly comfortable, free wi-fi. Lets you off about 1/3 of a mile from bus stop to town center, thankfully down hill.

General tip: I love the site Rome2Rio for transit info. Free, not selling anything and typically has detailed info on various methods of transit even to or between small or out-of-the-way places.

Unfortunately, the detailed information (fares, travel times and frequencies) provided by rome2rio.com is very often wildly inaccurate.

It can be useful in providing the name of the bus company serving a particular route, but you really need to go to that company's website for accurate information.

All that is certainly true. Only problem is it is often way way inaccurate. It may give the best link to the actual company doing the moving of people around but I never, ever, look at its projected schedules or transit time. It has been seriously wrong too many times for me.

Google Maps is incorrect.

As of 7/27/2023, the map is still showing as "Temporarily closed" which is not correct!

I just verified with the Czech rail team. The IC533 Direct train that runs from Prague still makes a stop at the Cesky Krumlov.

While there is no 'cash desk' where you can purchase ticket at the station, you can still buy it on the train or online.

I was recently in Czechia using public transport and found the Pubtran app very helpful.
