In well over 20 years of visiting Prague and the Czech republic this is the first time I have heard of a carnival being mentioned, mind you I don't visit Prague in February.Never heard it mentioned on any of the regular travel forums I frequent. I looked it up on Google and even the information there is limited, maybe you can lead me to the right website.
Bohemian tickets are a company I have used many times to get tickets for various events.
Also ask about it on you might get more info there as it is a very active forum, loads of american expats on the forum .

I haven't been in Prague for Carnival called in Prague and all Bohemia masopust. They call it fasank (read fashank) in Moravia (eastern part of Czech Republic) and Mardi Grass here. As I am aware they started to celebrate masopust in Prague not that long ago. Smaller towns and villages have celebrated it for a long time. The most lively celebrations are in the villages of southeastern Moravia which I visited several times. I found this website about fasank in Strani. If I were in C.R. at that time I would certainly go. The website is in Czech, you can try translator or if you (or anybody else) are seriously interested I will translate it. You can get there by car or by public transport. You can get by train to Uhersky Brod then bus or other combination of train and bus or just bus. Look at schedule here:
http://www.idos.cz You can switch it to English or German. Here is the promised website:

The last few years have seen the slow development of a carne vale or maso pust in Prague, but it is still a rather marginal event. However, the local Masopust Parade in Prague 3 is beginning to gain some traction. It starts at Namesti Jiriho z Podebrad and makes its way through upper Zizkov / lower Vinohrady down to the Municipal Hall in Prague 3 at Lipanska. It tends to kick off at around sunset on the Tuesday prior to Ash Wednesday. However, as that isn't until 28 February this year, nothing has been advertised yet. I will post again once the details have been published.
