I will be visiting Prague and Český Krumlov in early Fall 2023. I was wondering if is it possible to pay for everything (including public transportation) with Apple Pay. It would be easier than taking cash out.
Even if most do- you need to have a card, some cash. In my experience doesn’t matter where I go there is always a machine that isn’t working for Apple Pay, or CC system is down, or some such that makes me need a card or cash.
You likely won't have much of a problem in Prague, but we were in Cesky Krumlov earlier this year and it'd definitely still be useful to have cash on hand there. Doable on just Apple Pay? Sure. But you may need to search around for places to eat and what-not.
Anywhere that takes contactless payments will accept Apple Pay. Just check before you order any food etc that they accept it.
Last time we were in Prague you still had to pay cash to use toilets at the train stations.
Just to update AussieNomad, in general public toilets are cash only but you can pay by contactless card at the main train station. However you should check how much that might cost you as to pay by cash is only CZK20.
Hello,
I love the idea of running to the main train station each time I need to toilet.
Don't limit yourself to heavily tourist utilized locations by traveling without a CC or the ability to suck cash out of a machine.
On the other hand. Our first trip to the Czechia we thought we might find it backward (1996). The wall had come down not so long ago. What we found was the most heavily banked place we had ever visited. ATMs seemed to be on every corner. So maybe they have similarly adopted this new technology. Personally, I would let the success of my trip hand on a rural tavern having contactless ability.
