What's the best way to get from Prague to Cesky Krumlov in July, bus or train? I've heard the buses don't have bathrooms which may be a concern. Does the bus stop anywhere along the way? Is it necessary to reserve ahead for the bus or train?
There are many connections by bus. Some buses have bathroom, like Student Agency bus also called Yellow bus because it is yellow. New name is Regiojet. Those buses need reservation. There are other buses which don't. Buses stop on the way once or twice. It takes about 3 hours by bus; about the same as by train. Bus is slightly cheaper. There is one direct connection by train and many with one change in Ceske Budejovice. No reservation needed for train. You can reserve seat if you want. You can find schedule of trains and buses here: http://www.idos.cz . You can switch it to English and look at both buses and trains at the same time or or just trains and then just buses.
My son and I did this about 6 years ago, and I recall that only a bus got you near Cesky K.
I do know that we stopped at least once (maybe more) at a gas station, where my son found "Marijuana Tea" in a vending machine. He got it thru customs and probably still has it!
The Czech folk seem to use buses more than trains.
I don't know about reservations, but I do know that it pays to be early to the line at the bus station. On our trip into Prague, the last in line got to squat on the aisle with their luggage.
If you are in Prague, check out the 45 min train ride to Kutna Hora where you find the "Bone Church". Google image it. Worth the visit, and you can walk to it from the train station. Pretty much as you enter town, it will be on your right.
Cesky Krumlov train station is about twenty minutes walk from the old town. You can take taxi. Bus station is about ten minutes walk.
