Bus from Prague to Nuremberg

Buses keep coming up on the train sites for this route. I did figure out how to bring up the train but it requires a transfer and takes 5+ hours instead of 3+ hours and the bus is cheaper. Is this one of those routes where it makes more sense to take the bus? We normally take trains but would appreciate any input or experiences

Bus is run by Deutsche Bahn (German railroad). It goes from Prague Main Train Station to Nuremberg Main Train Station. It goes non-stop. It's a double decker with a restroom on board. Steward, beverages, snacks, etc. Different experience than normal bus, not to mention Greyhound.

I will only posit that before 1990, rail links between Bavaria and Czechoslovakia were rather tenuous. Since 1990 and the improved trade and tourism prospects, a lot of money has been spent on upgrading highway links and not so much on rail links. So there is now a very good limited-access 4-lane highway between Prague and Nuremberg. The rail links are pretty much unchanged. Thus the bus is faster and more direct.

We took the bus from Nurmberg to Prague last year. Was clean and comfortable and less expensive and more direct than the train. Went from train station to train station.

The bus is cheaper as long as you can get an advance purchase, non-refundable ticket. But with a Bayern- or Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket and Czech Rail tickets the fare can be just a little more than the least expensive Savings Fare and more flexible. The one change is a dedicated connection in Schwandorf to the direct ALX train from Munich to Prague.

Hi,

If you want to take the Nuremberg to Prague route, then the DB bus is the option. If you want the train, then you have to go from Dresden to Prague. There used to be a direct train connection from Nuremberg to Prague I took that in July 1973 going Nürnberg Hbf to Praha hl n. The passport control was at Cheb, right across the border, which was the former Eger in the Sudetenland.

Due to the less than optimum train connections, buses tend to be the best option. In addition to DB, there are several other lines. We took the Student Agency line from Nuremberg to Pilsen, which then went onto Prague. http://www.studentagencybus.com/en/413_446/N%C3%BCrnberg-PRAGUE-COACH-BUS The bus was great, comfortable, on-board entertainment. If there was a drawback, it would be that traffic can cause delays (more so than trains) but overall the cost and the schedule were great.
