Budapest > Munich > Salzburg > Vienna > Prague

My husband & I are traveling around the about places in mid April / May for 3 weeks in that order or should we reverse it. We are both into exploring castles, architecture and great food. Can anyone make suggestions on the following -
How much time in each place should we spend, what will the weather be like, best place to stay in each place somewhere central - we normally use booking.com, we will be using the train to get around as we traveled to Italy last year and found the train system very good. We are both reasonably fit and don't mind walking.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Budapest and Munich are opposite ends. Budapest --> Vienna --> Salzburg --> Munich are a straight line. The order you have would be doubling back on yourself. Prague is best from Vienna or Munich.

Trainwise I'd suggest the route Budapest > Vienna > Prague > Munich > Salzburg, since Prague - Salzburg often takes approx. 6:30 while the bus Prague - Munich covers the distance in 4:40 to 5:00 (the train takes 5:45). But it depends also on where you are flying out from.
