Bremen, Germany to Prague to Munich

Greetings. My daughter and her husband are going to see our German relatives in Bremen in March. They fly home from Munich, but were hoping to see Prague on this adventure. What is the best form of transportation from Bremen to Prague? What is the best form of transportation to Munich? They will have 3 nights in Prague. Any recommendations for housing in a central location?
Thank you so much

It is a little complicated but Take the train all the way to Prague; there are multiple changes; or train to Frankfurt and then fly to Prague.
Going to Munich take a direct flight or train from Prague

This sounds complicated. Any idea how long this would take or the expense involved?

For the train part of the question, go to www.bahn.com. Put in the date you are looking at, then from Bremen and to Prague. Start at 6am and you can page through all the possible itineraries, no of train changes, time of travel, and the price if you buy nonrefundable tickets today (Saver ticket) or the anytime fare (Flex ticket). Even the Saver ticket can be cashed in on-line for a 19 EUR fee.

Hi,

I would suggest this route after the visit in Bremen. From Bremen to Prague, you only transfer twice. Take the train Bremen to Hamburg, then the ICE Hamburg Hbf to Berlin Hbf, where you can take direct train to Prague. No multiple transfers, only twice...Hamburg Hbf and Berlin Hbf.

There is direct train from Prague to Munich Hbf, the last one arriving a bit after 2300hrs. It stops at the last track, ie next to the Yorma food market.

You could train to Hamburg or Hannover and fly to Prague or fly to Dresden an train to Prague. There are also flights with a transfer in Frankfurt or Munich; for a first overview look up rome2rio.com. It might however happen that you won't save much time against the train and probably pay more (sparpreis tickets for may start from €39.90).

It stops at the last track, ie next to the Yorma food market.

Tricky advice, since there is a Yorma food stall opposite to the very last track (#36) too. So, lets say it stops at track #26. ;)

Important: compare trains prices on both the web sites of the DB and the CD, the latter being often cheaper. Never buy a ticket for the Prague - Munich train from the DB. The trains are operated by CD and a German competitor of the DB and the DB website or sale points will offer you the international standard fare only. Prices at the CD website start from approx. €15. For other methods of buying cheap train tickets from Prague to Munich look up the "man in seat 61". Buses from Prague to Munich are 40-60min faster but (for my taste) less convenient.

Actually, you only have to transfer once (in Hamburg) on an 8-hour, all-train route between Bremen and Prague departing around 7:30, 11:15, and 13:30. Or the 9:20 departure would also connect only once, but at Nurnberg to a bus. My test date was March 14.

Be aware, there are interruptions in train service between Prague and Munich. They are doing rail work on a part of that route. That will require disembarking from the train at a station just before the construction and taking a bus to the station just past that work and boarding another train. The maps show that the bus trip should only take about 25-35 minutes, but as always, that is subject to the unpredictable things that can happen along the way. There is a work around that will keep you on trains the entire route. That might only stretch your trip by perhaps an hour or so. There is an online genius who knows what appears to be everything about trains in Europe. Go to: https://www.seat61.com/websites/cd-eshop.htm Also: https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/munich-to-prague-by-train.htm When you use the https://www.cd.cz/en/default.htm there are options that are not clearly revealed. On the block where you fill in the cities is a line at the bottom left corner that reads: "More options". Click on that and another window pops up with those cities already filled in. That is where the "Travel Via" is located on the right side to which seat61 refers for working around the rail construction. At the bottom of that block is a line that reads: "Connection Parameters". That allows you to control your trip more to your needs. That includes setting a minimum time between trains. I set a minimum of 10 minutes and that made changes to the routing to be sure we didn't miss any connections. Most connections between trains are pretty easy, but sometimes you just don't want to race, especially if you're not familiar with the train station. Although if you drill down far enough, you can usually find good layouts of the train stations and their platform locations. The trains are very nice and the fares are pretty inexpensive. Enjoy your trip.

The Prague to Munich direct train mentioned above will not be in operation until 31 May.
