We will be in Prague for 4 days in late July and want to do a day trip to see the best nature. We were researching Bohemian Switzerland, but are not sure if we want a 9-11 hour trip like most of the small group tours do. Is Bohemian Paradise as pretty and perhaps less crowded? Would you suggest any other areas instead? Thank you!
The two big areas for hiking outside of Prague are indeed Bohemian Switzerland and Bohemian Paradise. Bohemian Switzerland is more popular. I was in Prague for 8 days last fall and went to Bohemian Switzerland (+ Bastei Bridge in Saxon Switzerland); it was a nice trip. Bohemian Paradise was also certainly on my list, but I didn't have time to do both. It looks gorgeous, though, and I suspect would be less crowded in summer (I was in the area in October and Bohemian Switzerland was pretty empty at that time of year).
This is a nice video on what you might see in Bohemian Paradise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p19BH1AabU
I'm headed to Moravia (eastern Czechia) this fall but hope to return to the Bohemian part of Czechia in 2027. Bohemian Paradise will definitely be on my list of places to visit, and I will probably do a few days of hiking there.
A recommended guide: I did Bohemian Switzerland with Michal from Real Prague Tours as a private tour. Depending on how many people you have with you, it may not be that much more pricey than a small group tour. He's great -- a native of Czechia who had a Communist party father and a mother whose family lost their farm to the Communists. He is happy to share his and his family's history and insights on life in Czechia. He can customize the trip to what you want it terms of sights and duration. And he's a really nice guy. I used four guides while in Prague; Michal was by far the best. Here is his Bohemian Paradise trip (which, again could be customized to what you want): https://realpraguetours.com/bohemian-paradise-hiking-day-trip-from-prague/
Thank you so much for all of the information. My son is living in Prague this summer for 8 weeks doing a Pitt internship and we are visiting him at the end of the trip. We cant wait!
Glad to be of help. Enjoy your time in Prague!
