best way to get from Germany Nuremburg to Prague

Our party of 4 adults is traveling from Germany, Nuremburg area to Prague this coming October.
We traveled this route in 2019 by train and it wasn't a very good experience.
Looking into driving rental car - driver 71 years old- or hiring a private car service.
Concerned about renting car in Frankfurt and crossing border to Czech Republic.
Would consider train again if there was a good option. Missed 6 minute connection before.
Any suggestions welcomed and thank you!

I think the train would be the best option - renting a car and taking it into a different country could get very expensive. German trains are very good and typically on time. Of course, there are occasional delays but usually you are able to grab the next train. In fact, when you book your train, you have the option of adjusting the transfer time if you think it's too short.

Here is a link to use for the Deutsche Bahn trains: https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Just plug in Nürnburg hbf. into the "from" box, then add "Praha" to the "to" box, put in your date and time, then click "Search." There will be a number of options that show up, most will have only one transfer. Click on "show details" to see more about the transfer. It will have the amount of time you get to change trains and if it is too short, in your opinion, then click "adjust the transfer time."

Mardee - I have seen other posts where people suggest taking the bus instead of the train from Nuremburg to Prague. However, I would prefer a train if possible. I will be traveling from Nuremburg to Prague in late April and had planned to take a train from Nuremburg to Schwandorf, and have adjusted the transfer time to have a longer transfer in Schwandorf and then taking a direct train from Schwandorf to Prague. It seems pretty straightforward and will take about 6 and a half hours. Does that sound about right? Do you know how long the buses take, and would there be an advantage to take a bus?

Posts on the forum from many years ago make it sound like the train is not the way to go, but more recent posts seem to indicate that train travel is perfectly reliable. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

shammes, I forgot about Flixbus - that is certainly an option. I took it from Muenster to Hanover and it went very well. The trip takes 3 hours from Nuremberg to Prague, and the cost is only $16 per person. I recommend Flixbus - they were reliable and you can upload the ticket to your phone. It's very easy.

Just use this link - https://www.flixbus.com - key in Nuremberg for your departure city, Prague for your arrival, and your date and time, and it will show you the various options. The earlier you book, the cheaper it is. You catch the bus at Nuremberg central bus station (Willy-Brandt-Platz). You can make a seat reservation for a few dollars more, which I recommend.

Besides Flixbus, there are RegioJet and Arda Tours. Look up Busradar.com for an overview.

Thank you to everyone who posted. We decided to drive to Regensburg and return the rental car there and then catch a direct train to Prague.
