My friends and I are having a difficult time figuring out how to get from Prague to Slovenia. We definitely want to see Prague, and we have to go after we start our trip in Vienna for an internal convention. So that requires us to go from Prague to our next destination which is Slovenia. What is the best way to do this, the train seems like a very long time. Flights are too expensive. Has anyone successfully driven this route and were happy about that choice? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
I would fly to Ljubljana. Because I don't know when you want to go I put random date 14.6. and found direct flight on Adria Air for $190. To go by train takes around 11 hours with at least 2 train changes, some connections up to 4 changes. Bus with one change in Munich takes 10 hours to Ljubljana. Going to Bled takes at least 12 hours with several changes. You can find all that on Deutsche Bahn website.
I would fly too. Check Air France, Air Serbia, or Swiss Air for prices as they do fly from Prague to Venice. Once in Venice you could all share the ride with GoOpti for transfer to Lake Bled for a very reasonable price. My husband and I hired GoOpti to take us from Lake Bled to Venice; the driver was reliable, spoke very good English. It is about a 3 hour drive between Venice and Lake Bled. From Lake Bled to Ljubljana is about 45 minute drive. I hope this helps you.
thank you so much. I think we have changed the plan and are going to do prague-budapest-slovenia.
In that case, take the overnight train from Prague to Budapest. You'll maximise your time in both cities, cut of the hassle of airports, and save the cost of one night in a hotel.
If going in the summer, take the overnight train from Budapest to Ljubljana, too. The day train takes almost 9 hours, you'll lose almost a full day in transport.
Otherwise, for future reference, Prague to Bled is easiest by flying to Venice and then taking a shuttle transfer or train (via Gorizia/Nova Gorica) to Bled.
