Best time to travel to Czech Republic

We are now planning our trip for next year. We are flexible with dates. We are super active and love to hike and explore. We usually travel end of September into early October to avoid the school age children crowd. My question is when is the best time to visit? We will start in Prague and travel to two other cities. Total travel days will be around 2 weeks. TIA

September is always the month I recommend. Tourist season has already peaked and the city becomes less crowded. This does not mean less kids because in Europe, September is normally a month where school trips are planned for cultural info. Warm days, nothing extreme and pleasant evenings for river cruises or eating outside. If you are hiking then locally you'll want Divoka Sarka. If you plan a trip then Bohemian Switzerland is worth a day or two in the forests.

We like the "shoulder season" and have traveled to the Czech Republic in mid to late May and found the weather enjoyable with fewer crowds than in the summer. September would also be good.

Yep— May and September are pleasant both weather wise and price wise.

We spent all of May 2024 there, and the weather seemed perfect.

Be aware that many EU schools have a long holiday the first two weeks of OCT. Myself, I really prefer APR-JUN and SEP-OCT, but I always find something to see and do any month. I dislike JUL-AUG most, because that's when the kids are out of school, the caravans are on the road, and the international tourists are heaviest. Plus the weather can suck.

I've been in Prague in FEB (Snow), APR (snow), MAY (fantastic), OCT (cool and wet).

Pick three specific things you want to see and then plan your trip around that. Two weeks should be good.

You have to be a bit careful of anecdotal information. And these days you have to be a little careful of averages as well. Still I give the averages more weight than the anecdotal information.

This is sort of interesting. You can compare the weather averages in various locations. This link I chose Budapest, Prague and Portland. Notice that October in Prague is among the drier months.
