Best place for beer in Prague

Hello, I'm planning a trip to Prague in September 2025 and my husband loves beer. I want to surprise him by taking him someplace fun for beer and food. Perhaps with traditional Czech music too? What would be the most memorable place to go to? Perhaps a place that gives us an opportunity to mix with local people too - not just a tourist place.

I don't recall pivovars (beer restaurants) in Prague having live music, and we've been there several times. But beer is very easy to come by. The very best IMO can be found at the Strahov Monastery in the Castle District, although excellent Czech beer can be found everywhere in the city. Pivovarsky Dum is another good choice. The Staropramen brewery also has a restaurant with a surprisingly good selection of what I'd call Czech craft beers, but it's in a sort of industrial area that's not very scenic.

If you get good weather go to Riegrovy Sady beer garden. If you get poor weather go to the Vinohradsky Pivovar. Both in the 2nd district and both will have a mix of tourists/locals. Thank the lord that neither has traditional Czech music!

My favorite place for drinking beer in Prague is sitting down. The beer is so good and the atmosphere for drinking is so good, and my balsnce is so poor, that nothing else much matters.

I agree with Mr. E. We spent all of May 2024 in Prague. When we wanted a good beer, we usually stopped in any neighborhood NOT in the tourist areas, sat outside, and people watched. We did not have a bad beer the entire month.

Also, the BEST beer we had was the unfiltered Pilsner Urquell we had at the end of the company tour in Plzen.

And it goes down so easy. Especially the Pilsners. My second day the the Czech Rep i told my wife we needed to head back to the hotel. I was very dizzy, a sure sign my heart rhythm was on the fritz again (chronic for me). My wife said BS, you've been drinking 30" tall beers since breakfast ... you are just drunk.

Mr. E, I am not typically a beer drinker--in fact usually hate it. But I had more beer in the Czech Republic in one month than I had my entire 57 years before!

Don't forget U Fleku which has a wonderful beer garden to enjoy their tasty black beer. Yes, it's touristy but the beer is great and the place has a nice ambience.

I agree with Mr E and others. Neither me nor my dad were drinkers by any stretch and yet we sitting anywhere by 10 AM with a Czech beer. Na zdraví!

https://www.obecnidum.cz/en/restaurace-a-obchody/pilsner-pub-municipal-house/ this is a place I have been visiting several times over the last couple of year, had been many years ago but was reintroduced to it by a Czech friend who reckons the food is as good Czech food as you will get anywhere. Live accordian music in the evening and the place is stunning . Basement level of the Obecni Dum, there are other restaurants cafes and bars in this building but the Pilsner pub is a great beer hall.
jphbucks mentions the Strahov monastery and the Klasterini Pivovar has opened up a new beer hall there, some great beers and very good food. Pivovarsky Dum (Benidict) i can highly recommend, great beer and top quality food but it does get really busy no live music .Just along the street from there is U Sumavy https://usumavy.cz/, a real old fashioned pub /restaurant , usually 6 or 7 beers on tap, food is average but i like the place .
Jason mentions Riegrovy Sady a great beer garden, they sometime have live music but often have sport on the big screen there, i was there in May 2024 when the Czechs won the world Ice Hockey championship.not bad range of beers depending when you visit and several street food stalls, he also mention Vinohradsky pivovar, love this place some of the best beers you can get , great food and sometimes have live music in the evening. Lets Meat bar is just a few 100 yards from there , again a good selection of beers though i have only been in there around lunchtime.
One of my favourite places is Cobolis right beside Ladvi metro https://cobolis.cz/kontakty/, great range of beers made in house and superb food, place looks like a old concrete shopping center from the outside ( which it was) but lovely inside.

on the river this place is great if the weather is nice https://www.capadlo.org/, mainly big brewery beers and food is pizza or pizza, but lovely place in good weather and usually live music in the evening, a real Praguers haunt..
