I want to travel from Prague to Saltzburg and not take all day and spend a fortune. Which is the best mode of transportation to use? I heard a bus/train combo is good. Where can I go to book that? Thanks.
You can find train schedules on the Deutsche Bahn website. On weekdays there's a 10:01 AM departure that gets you to Salzburg at 3:38 PM. It has a reasonable connection time in Linz. I doubt that a bus would be faster, and there's always just a bit of a hassle factor when you mix buses and trains on the same travel leg.
I don't know whether that's a Czech train or an Austrian train; perhaps you're on first one then the other. I assume you can get tickets on the trainline.eu website, which is often recommended here.
I would recommend train. You will find schedule on http://www.idos.cz . Czech railroads have usually cheaper tickets than Austrian. It is not necessary to buy tickets ahead. You can buy them when you arrive in Prague.
"...not take all day...." What about doing that route by night and day? Prague to Vienna by night train, arriving at Wien Hbf, then transfer to Salzburg.
I would not recommend night train. Train Prague to Vienna takes less than 4 hours. The night train leaves Prague few minutes before midnight and arrives at 7:00 to Vienna. That leaves you with about 6 hours sleep. Sleep? The train is held about 45 minutes in Brno and 2 hours in Breclav. Those stations don't belong among the quietest. Quite likely you would be awaken and not sleeping there. Besides to go from Prague to Salzburg via Vienna is a significant detour. Go Prague to Linz and change to Salzburg there. The ride is quite scenic.
