We will be renting a car for a week at the Prague airport and I have been reading horror stories about car rental company scams. Which is the most reliable and worry free car rental company at the airport?
I would check with Autoeurope.com, a consolidator in Portland, Maine. I've rented through them a number of times and always had positive results.
I too use AutoEurope. Or, sometimes Hertz since they give my ex-company very favorable rates (on my Gold Card.)
Some of the big U.S. rental car names are franchised in Europe, and some are nightmares to rent from.
You might want to compare the airport rates with city rental rates. I've found that most airports have additional tariffs or taxes associated with renting on the property. You ought to see the taxes and add on's @ Atlanta Hartsfield Airport--even if a car is available.
I always avoid airport rentals. You can usually turn in the cars at airports rented elsewhere at no additional charge, however.
We made reservations here through National Car rental which ended up being Europcar when we picked the car. We did not have a bad experience and they were very helpful when I destroyed a wheel in Germany. RS book suggest you rent through the companies here in case you need to make a claim.
I seldom rent cars at an airport location as they most often come with high tariffs, taxes, etc. If you're going to be visiting Prague, I would suggest you rent a car in a center city location as you leave town. Parking charges can get expensive in any large European city, too.
I too use Autoeurope.com or Hertz.com--whichever is cheapest.
