Best area for hotel or Airbnb in Prague

We will be in Europe in middle of May and will be in Prague for a few days at the end of the month. What area of the city should I look for hotels and/or Airbnb's that will allow us to experience the city by foot in the best way. I have a ton of hotel points with major brands we can use, but it would be nice to stay at an airbnb in some places so as to have kitchen and laundry access. What are some must see places in and around Prague? My father was born there, so of course, we will go visit his birth home first. :)
Thanks!

I would say Old Town. I walked everywhere from my hotel in the old town.

Not sure what you mean by "experience the city by foot in the best way". If "by foot" includes using a tram or underground then Vinohrady is a nice neighbourhood only 10 Minutes away from the Old Town centre. It's close to Zitkov Tower which is a must see for the giant babies!

The Castle and surrounds is also a must see. The Old Town square will be very crowded but is also a must see. We also liked the Museum of Communism (just off the town square - above McDonalds).

We stayed at the Park Inn Radisson - mostly because I used my air miles and got 4 nights for a whopping $16. But it was a nice enough place - breakfast was fine/included. Tram and metro pretty much outside the door. Still walkable to old town (it's very near the Dancing Houses) and a block away from the 'Anthropoid' church.

I stay in the Dejvicka are of the city when I am in Prague (Prague 6) great transport links and it only takes a few minutes by tram or metro to get into the main tourist sites, the castle is walkable from there.Prague public transportation is superb and very cheap so do consider staying a few stops way from the centre. Vinohrady is also a great area and a similar distance from the centre to Dejvicka.

If you had hotel points to use, then I would opt for either the Hilton Old Town or the Marriott. They are side-by-side (as they often are) are a great location near Masarykovo Nádraži. It is easy to walk to and from the Old Town, and there is a tram station and a metro station just outside the door, so you can get anywhere quickly. It really is a superb location.

If you would prefer to stay outside of the city centre, then I would recommend Vinohrady. It is a nice area to stay in. Smíchov is up-and-coming, has good tram connections and is walking distance to the riverfront. Holešovice has just been rated as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Europe, so that could be worth a look either. The Mama Shelter Hotel is quite cool, and it well located.

Please stay in a hotel, rather than an Airbnb. Here's an interview with the Mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, where he explains how and why Airbnb is having such a negative effect on the city.
