Best App for Public Transit in Prague

Hi gang,

I'm headed to Prague in about 2 weeks for a long weekend from Munich.

Have my days planned out (arrive Friday around noon and leave on Monday late morning). Very excited as it's my first visit.

Aside from paper transit routes, has anyone had good experience with either Google or an online app for tram/metro journey planning? Ideally, one that already knows where you are, so that the Starting Point is "present location" or something like that, and will tell you where to walk to get to the nearest departure point.

Thanks!

Todd

I've been to Prague but not in a few years. I have used my phone in Europe with Google Maps numerous times over the last few years, though, and it works really well for walking and public transit directions, if Google has transit schedules for the city you are in. I just checked Google Maps and indeed they have bus/tram/subway info for Prague. So I'd think Google Maps would work great there. You will need mobile data to use Google Maps for walking/transit directions, however.

this is the offical transport company and you can download that.
Andrew gives good info and I have used Google maps for getting around Prague but as i know the city pretty well i don't use it much for transportation but will have a look at the options Andrew mentions when i am over next month.
You are never far from a transport link in the city either bus ,tram or metro and transport ticlets work on any form of transport in the city.

I will say that Prague is a lovely walking town, fairly compact, and I managed to get around just fine without a smart phone the two times I visited. The phone will just make it easier. On the other hand, I found Budapest much more of a challenge - it's quite a bit bigger than Prague, and if I ever go back to Budapest, I'll be glad to have my smart phone with Google Maps with me!

Yes, I use the DPP as well but if you find it locks up occasionally then also try PubTrans. I wrote a page at https://livingprague.com/prague-life/prague-apps/ which has my most used apps in the city. By no means exhaustive but they are the ones that I've found to be most useful and stable from restaurant reservations, transit, trip planners, maps, traffic, tourism and emergency stuff.
