My husband, daughter and I will be travelling in September 2017. We will be starting our journey in Berlin and will continue to Prague. We will be ending our travels with a quick trip to Munich to experience Octoberfest. My daughter would like to take a side trip to Krakow and maybe journey to Auschwitz. Our total travel time will be about 10 days. Any suggestions? Is this doable? What is the best way to get from Prague to Krakow? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
With 10 days I would stick to your original 3 cities. To get to Krakow takes a relatively long time by train and flying is not much faster because there is no direct flight between Prague and Krakow.
I have done an overnight train from Berlin to Krakow, and then I did an overnight train from Krakow to Prague. So you can save by not paying for a hotel, and you will arrive by early morning so you can maximize your sightseeing.
See also these recent threads on connections to/from Krakow:
There's the Dachau concentration camp just outside of Munich in case you decide Poland is too much.
Ten days (even for me) would be a minimum for these 3 cities alone, as you have not insignificant travel times between them. Adding Krakow not only complicates travel logistics as previously mentioned, but would probably diminish your overall experience.
I would skip Krakow as well, 10 days just isn't enough IMO. In between Berlin and Prague is Dresden for an easy stop off, although I wasn't particularly fond of it... you're going to go through it anyways, wont be anywhere near as interesting as Auschwitz though. I would just focus on your 3 cities.
If your going to the fest, Plzen is an easy train ride (90 mins) from Prague for the brewery tour. Im not huge into tours, but Im huge into beer, and I really enjoyed that.
Perhaps I will see you at the fest! Hacker-Pschorr is the place to be!
Hi,
If you have ten full days, you need to choose which three cities out of the four are priority. Since you have already picked Munich, I would suggest Berlin and Krakow as well. With Berlin,Munich, and Krakow there is also the night train option giving you an extra day...all very doable.
