Is there a different tour/town that you guys would recommend over CK? If there's something more enchanting (& closer), I'd be open to that too. Sorry for the 2nd question....
Gail
Gail, there are a couple of other little towns famous for their baths and there are some pretty stunning castles. The castles are best done with a guide but worth the effort.
There are other towns and castles worth visiting, but the charm of CK is pretty special. See also http://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/video/tv-show/czech-republic-beyond-prague and http://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/read/articles/cobbled-charms-of-cesky-krumlov. For instance, I quite enjoyed Konopiste castle on my last trip (hunting trophies, regal armament collection, walking through it's surrounding woods, not crowded in late October), but the town of Benesov was nothing to compare.
I would not recommend it over Cesky Krumlov but if you want something closer to Prague then Kutna Hora.
