9 nights in Prague - Suggestions for side/day trips?

My husband and I will be in Prague from October 1st to the 10th. We've become rather lazy travelers over the years. We love staying in apartments and experiencing cities at a slower pace. We've booked a one-bedroom apartment through VRBO for about $90 a night (including airport transfers upon arrival), and are looking for day trip suggestions. I've seen the ones in Rick's book, and would like to hear feedback on those.

We wouldn't mind possibly spending the night a little further away. Has anyone ever traveled to Mikulov to visit the wineries? Also, we've never been to Dresden, would that be doable?

Thank you.

Dresden is 2 hours by train. Doable as a day trip or overnight. Mikulov is a good idea. There are many wineries, Visitor Center can give you recommendation. By train you will go to Breclav (direction to Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava) and then by local train to Mikulov. On the way you can get off in Valtice and go for tasting in Chateau Valtice cellar. It's called Salon Vin (salon of wine) and they have 100 best wines of the Czech Republic from previous year. http://www.salonvin.cz
