7 Nights in Prague

We have seven nights to spend in Prague in July. Is this too much/enough time? We will visit/tour castles, museums, parks--as much as possible but also take time to enjoy! We prefer to choose one "home base" and make day trips from there. Should we be more flexible and spend a few nights elsewhere? Thank you!

You can spend 1-2 nights in Cesky Krumlov. You say you want to visit castles, there are three easily reached from Prague: Karlstejn, Krivoklat and Konopiste. Visit medieval town Kutna Hora - 1 hour from Prague by train. There you can visit silver mines, ossuary, St.Barbara cathedral. There are many museums in Prague. I liked Museum of Communism, KGB Museum, National Technical Museum and few others. My favorite parks: Riegrovy sady, Havlickovy sady, Petrin, Letna, Vysehrad - not really park but looking like one. It is old castle complex on the cliff above Vltava River. If you do Cesky Krumlov and above mentioned day trips seven nights is certainly not too much time.

7 nights can be filled quite easily in Prague , I am there several times a year and never seem to get around to all the things I plan.IIja makes some great suggestions for day trips and even overnighters.Desrden is a good day trip from Prague only about 2 hours by train.
In July the weather is hopefully superb and I will be there for the first week of july and will be doing some walks just outside of the city.Easy to take a train or bus to one point walk for a bit and connect up with trains or buses to get back to the city.
The Beer gardens will be in full swing and the aforementioned Riegrovy Sady has an excellent one, not great views but a good place to spend a couple of hours. Letna Park has a huge beer garden with stunning views over the city and you will see me there ;late afternoon most days I am in the city in the good weather.
visiting the Lidice memorial is a good half day trip from Prague easy to do yourself though if going be prepared for a few emotions.

As you have a week, I would be tempted go somewhere else for a night or two. Not Cesky Krumlov, try Brno or Olomouc instead. Have you looked at the RS Prague and the Czech Republic book?

I will second Brno, a friend of mine lived there until quite recently and I visited him there a few years ago, lovely city with a completely different vibe to Prague, some stunning countryside and lots of history. One of the friendliest places I have visited

We spent a month there a couple summers ago and had no problem filling our days with great things to do! Lots to see and do within an easy day's drive.

I think we will need to schedule another trip to Prague to take in all your great suggestions! In addition to Prague itself we decided to spend one night in Cesky Krumlov (a castle stop or two along the way) and attend an evening concert at the summer music festival. Thank you for the suggestion for Lidice--it sounds like a very moving memorial that we would like to include. We have booked a studio apartment for our stay; the manager has provided suggestions for us. It will be a very full week--we'll be ready for a few relaxing evenings in the beer gardens! Thank you, and happy travels to each of you.

We spent 4 nights in Prague and that was just right. Go somewhere else nearby: Dresden (also visited), Nuremburg, or Vienna for the remainder and broaden your experience.

Hi,

My vote is for Brno and Olomouc instead. Brno impressed me as I did a day trip there from Vienna last June. It was a province capital, I'll be back this coming June too to see Brno again and to pay a visit to Olomouc, the historical sites there.
