I want to see and experience as much of the culture as I can. Not looking to spend lots of money. Want to see the best sites and take a trip to Terezin. Best way to do that. What is also the best way to get from the airport to the old town where we are staying.
The best way is to go by taxi. Cheaper would be to go by AE bus (Aeroexpress) which will take you to the Main Train Station. The cheapest is public transport. Bus 119 to Veleslavin (terminus) then by metro (subway). Read Rick Steves book Prague & the Czech Republic and also posts under Czech Republic especially those from Unclegus and his links. Very useful.
where exactly are you staying as there are several options to travel by public transport .
Terezin is easy to do on your own, bus from Holesovice bus station ,near the metro ,takes about an hour to get there and stops outside the small fortress. There is a fair bit of walking around the various sites so give yourself at least 4 hours in Terezin to get round them all.
I got off the bus at the fortress, then walked about 1 km to the town center, including along the town wall. Then took the bus back from the town square. There are several museums/exhibitions in the town. I'd say 4 hours was not enough.
If you want to visit the Jewish Quarter sights, know that they close around 1 pm on Friday and reopen on Sunday morning. So Sundays are usually crowded because of the backlog. Don't skip the old cemetery, very interesting.
Chani I would agree, 4 hours as a minimum but 6 hours would be better .I should have got an earlier bus but I had to get back to Prague as I was having a meal at a friends house otherwise I would have stayed longer .I am back in Prague next month and again in August so will probably head out there with friend in August as they have not been there before.
