4 days and nights in and around Prague

We [a married couple in our 30s] will fly into Prague and depart by train. We have not previously visited Prague and would like to find a small hotel or B&B within a 500m walk to public transportation. Suggestions on lodging would be appreciated. Also, if there is a smaller town within 100 km of Prague that can be reached by train and that has historic architecture, unique museum, or great [authentic] restaurant[s] we would reserve a full day and evening for such a day trip, returning to Prague that evening.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Julian (https://www.hoteljulian.com/en/). The closest tram stop is 2 minutes away (160 m according to Google Maps). The rooftop terrace has a great view of Prague Castle. Book directly for the best price.

The accommodation you are looking for will be a Penzion. There are many just outside the centre but within a short walk of a tram/metro. For example, on my side of the city (south) there's https://penzionpaloucek.cz/en/ which is 300m from the Vysehrad metro and it's on a night tram line if you are travelling after midnight.
