3 newish micro-breweries to try in Prague

as many folk know I am a regular visitor to the city of Prague and love to seek out new pubs ,new micro breweries and different beers, so here are 3 places I tried for the first time this month.
Pivovar Bubenec
https://www.facebook.com/pivovarbubenec/
this is in the Dejvicka area of the city and not far from the American Ambassadors residence ,actually a lovely area to stroll round and the Chestnut trees well looking lovely.
the beer is pretty good though a couple were pretty bitter ,food was great and service excellent , there are 2 sections to this place a smaller upstairs bar and a larger downstairs restaurant area ,prices very reasonable.
Pivovar Cobolis
http://www.cobolis.cz/
loved this place, right outside the Ladvi metro stop, looks pretty crap from the outside as it is in a 1960's style concrete shopping area. Only been open about 6 months .It has a small café area to one side where coffee and cakes can be got or head into the vast main area for meals and up to 12 different beers . Beers are really great and several American style beers but the New England IPA was not available when I was in. Food is great I had Schnitzle with potatoes and pickles, really good, was there with a friend from Kansas City and he thought it good enough to take his wife to .Staff are really nice and the place is spotlessly clean.Loads of space for dining and they can cope with larger groups ,even had a nice area for just having a beer.

Andelsky Pivovar
https://www.andelskypivovar.cz/cs/
this is just a very short walk from the Andel tram/metro interchange.
new place ,only opened in the last few months , small bar upstairs and a large restaurant down stairs.
Beer was very good and both I had were great one was an IPA that was nice and hoppy but not too bitter the other was a ckassic light lager which was lovely.
Food range was very good and I had the ribs but for me they were far too smokeyif you like your ribs like this then OK but for me just too much smoke and I will try something else next time I visit. Service is great and prices reasonable.

So 3 new places for folk to try ,all have their merits and all are places I will return to,Cobolis being by far my favourite but all were great .Give them a try folks and see what you think.

Thanks a lot Uncle Gus. I’m a fairly regular visitor, although not as regular as you, and I’ve added these to my list to try when I’m there next week.

I think you are staying in the Andel area and I mentioned I was trying that new micro brewery , so give it a go .It is quite easy to miss as the entrance is quite small but it is on the left-hand side as you walk towards the river.
Another place I mentioned for you was Beer Time and I was in there too, had the duck burger and it was superb and they had 12 different beers on tap but watch the strength of some of them.I managed 3 small ones at lunchtime and did feel a bit of a wobble on,lovely stuff though.

I was back in Prague a couple years ago, after about a 17 year gap, and I have to say that the beer scene in that country has just exploded. So many new breweries, great quality, huge variety and lots of experimentation, probably the closest to the American Craft Beer scene of anyplace in Europe.

We were on a "Beer Trip" focusing mainly on Germany, and finished up in Prague, we probably will just plan a trip to focus on the Czech Republic.

Paul it is pretty incredible now some great stuff around now and the micro breweries are really doing it right, some lovely beers but also serving great food ,staff have been trained to much higher standards than previously. I make a point of trying as many new places as I can.back in Prague in August with 2 friends so will be looking for some other new places or certainly places I have not tried before.

Paul loads of places away from Prague to visit too,I was in this place last week.
https://www.purkmistr.cz/en/
about a couple of miles from the centre of Plzen, some great beers ,nice food and good service, nice outdoor area to sit in. Less than 300kc in a taxi from the train station but we took a bus back that dropped us of right at the Pilsner Urquell brewery so we could have a few there too.
if you do decide on a beer trip to the CR let me know and I will try and help out if and where I can.

Unclegus,

Your helpful advice and updates are the sole reason we keep Prague on our short list for a possible return one day. Our first visit in 2017 was enhanced by your posts and specific replies to our inquiries. Thanks for your contributions!

Uncle Gus

You’re right that I’m staying in Andel - good memory - and yes I’ve got Beer Time on my list.

I’m in Prague for a week so hopefully will get to try a range of your suggestions. Probably not as many as I intend as I’m visiting a friend who lived in the Czech Republic and who i see only a couple of times a year. Once we sit in front of our first pint and start talking time seems just to disappear and we never move on.

Alan, I think BeerTime is one of these places you can just sit and enjoy staying there for the evening, good food,i have eaten there several times and the Burger I had was really superb, you have to order fries seperately but as I was just there for lunch the burger with all the stuff on it was plenty for me .I have had the fish and chips in there and that was pretty good. with 12 beers on tap you won't get bored with them and they seem to rotate as one barrel get used up something else comes on.
