We're considering taking a Christmas Market River cruise in 2024 starting in Prague on Nov. 27th. Does anyone know the dates that the Christmas Market opens in Prague in 2024? The cruise would have us arriving there on the 27th, I see that this year, the Christmas Market opened on Dec. 2.

The official dates may not even be out yet. Best to look on the official Prague town/government page. Most markets are based around ADVENT and open when ADVENT begins. We take a Xmas Market Cruise every other year - Prague will be gorgeous whether the markets are open or not. We typically like the cruises a little later as the towns are totally decorated and the concerts have begun. We went 11/29 last year and a few of the towns were not in full swing yet. We have booked 12/7 for our next one.

December 2 this year was the Saturday before Advent Sunday, and was the latest possible date that Saturday can fall (meaning that the 4th Sunday in Advent and Christmas Eve are the same day). Next year Advent Sunday is on December 1, so on that basis the market could be expected to open on 30 November.

We have different markets which open on different dates. When you see markets that this year opened on December 2nd then these markets close with the last night on January 6th. As pointed out above, this means that the big Old Town Square market and the lower market at Wenceslas Square opening night will be November 30th. But there are smaller markets. The upper part of Wenceslas Square opened on November 24th this year. The Namesti Miru market always opens first i.e. this year it opened on November 20th and it's sister market at Republic Square opened on November 26th. Both Namesti Miru and Republic Square are the wooden/red stalls and these markets close on December 24th. We were in Prague between the 28th Nov and early on the 2nd Dec. Although the big market in the Old Town and the one on Wensaslas sqaure only opened on the Saturday, there were several smaller markets in the city that had opened on the 25th - my favourite being the one at Náměstí Míru (Peace Square)
