2 nights in Cesky Krumlov?

Your opinions please. Is 2 nights too much in CK?
We are arriving in Prague Apr 12, plan on going to CK on Apr 18, and Salzburg on 19th. The bus doesn’t run on the 19th, but does on the 20th. Are we missing something?

We are planning 3 nights in Salzburg, Vienna for 5 nights and 6 nights in Budapest.
We are 70 and walk 5 to 8 miles easily, and like to take our time exploring.

We fly into PRG, out of BUD on May 3.
We love you guys! You were very helpful when we planned our delightful Spain trip last fall.
Other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Phil & Casey

Cesky Krumlov is a charming town that absolutely warrants 2 nights. I was there for only one night, which meant that we had only one half day and a morning to explore the town. I would have loved to have stayed another night in order to have a full day there.

The castle was beautiful - unfortunately we were there on Monday and it was closed but we were able to wander through the courtyards. We peered out through openings in the stone walls upon the village that lay below us. The castle tower is a beautiful work of art, with rich colors and detailed illustrations, and as we walked under the tower and through the high arched hallways, we could almost feel like we had stepped back in time.

I can also recommend a couple of places we ate at. The first was Tavern Satlava, which offered a selection of foods cooked over an open fire. It sounded promising so we stopped in for lunch and had one of the best meals ever. We each ordered the mixed grill, which consisted of a piece of chicken, beef and pork grilled over the fireplace (we could see the process), and served with potatoes and sour cream, and the best potato pancake I have ever had. Coupled with a beer, it was the perfect meal.

We also had a late meal at Hospoda Na louzi at Kájovská 66. The place was jamming and was packed with loud, beer-swigging young people but we enjoyed the atmosphere. The pub was worth it for the beer alone – Eggenberg’s, from a local brewery – but the food was very tasty, too. I had roast duck with dumplings, which was very good, and my friend had the schnitzel, which she loved. We sat next to a German couple on holiday, and enjoyed chatting with them.

We spent 2 nights in Cesky Krumlov and enjoyed it. We usually stay at least 2 nights in a place otherwise we would feel too rushed. We took the free walking tour the TI offered in the morning, visited the castle and just wandered around. We went in 2014 and my sister still talks about Cesky as being her favorite of our 15 day trip.

It depends on what time you arrive. If you got there early in the day one night could be enough, as it is small. But chances are you won’t arrive until later so spend two nights. We also took the shuttle from Salzburg and that was great.

We arrived in the afternoon and walked around the main square area and brought back cheeseburgers recommended by Rick from the youth hostel. The next day we walked to the castle and surrounding area. The castle tour was great. Try to book an English tour of the medieval theatre. It’s very rare. We ate that night on the other side of the river. Great town. You can take s shuttle service recommended by Rick from Prague to CK and from CK to Salzburg. I think that is the CK(spelled out) shuttle. Very reasonable. We stayed at a hotel recommended by Rick and sat on the balcony overlooking the river both nights. Very nice view

We also stayed 2 nights on way from Prague to Vienna - much more relaxing than just an overnight, especially if using public transportation. I second the vote for touring the Baroque theater at the castle. We are theater people, so we didn't wait for the English tour.

We used CK Shuttle for both legs of the trip. Very efficient, and a very engaging young man as a driver. Door to door transport from your hotel.

We spent 2 wonderful nights in CK. We stayed Thursday & Friday. Early Friday am we took a private walking tour with Karolina from Krumlov Tours. We had the town to ourselves! She was knowledgeable and engaging. We enjoyed “off the beaten path.” In addition we toured the Baroque Theater. Have to say I left my heart in this fairytale town! We used CK Shuttle from Vienna>CK>Prague, door to door. We stayed at Castle View Apartments. Definitely recommend staying 2 nights! Amazing history in CK.

We spent one night between Prague and Vienna and I wish we had spent 2 nights.

Edited to add that we used CK Shuttle on each leg of the trip. Door to door service. I highly recommend them.

Not too much. We spent three nights there last September and someone told us we were the first people they had met who had stayed 3 nights - I'm sure that is not true. We spent one day taking two tours in the castle (the theater tour is separate from the building tour and the theater tour is more interesting, IMO, but if you tour the castle you will see a lot too. We also spent time in the large gardens out back. Our other day was devoted to a full day canoe trip, hence the 3 nights. Since you will not be canoeing in April, 2 nights would be perfect. In the evenings the town clears out, there are wonderful restaurants and the castle courtyards are open to walk through.

Also, we splashed out for a private transfer to Linz. A splurge for us, but we were heading to Melk and every other option was just long and inconvenient. So we just caught the train from Linz and felt like we saved a day.
