Hi, Need recommendations for restaurants in Prague that take reservations for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day meals that have festive Christmas environment. Is Christmas Eve dinner more traditional there, and maybe Christmas Day lunch? Willing to splurge on these days. Thanks!
In my experience, (Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switz, France - but not Cz) Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas are closed tighter than a drum; maybe the railroad station restaurants are open. However, these are new times, and maybe there are places that are open. There weren't in the 70s or late 80s or early 90s.
In fact, I would be interested in anyone's answers about festive Christmas dinners/holidays that weren't just about Prague.
boomerdog1, you have the same post under Czech Republic.
Shelley, traditions like Christmas are of course more traditional outside big cities like Prague. Region called Slovacko where the traditions are still the most alive is in southeast Moravia. Look here:
http://www.farnostvelehrad.cz/dokument/koncerty-107 . I would recommend Svatostepansky koncert - Hradistan on St.Stephen holiday which is December 26th. Website is in Czech, translate it with translator. If interested I can help you with logistics how to get there from Prague. Other useful website about Christmas traditions in C.R.:
