Hotel Residence Agnes vs Hotel Hastel

I am researching lodging options for 4 nights this September in Prague for a 30-year wedding anniv. trip. We have used hotel chain points at 2 of our other stops on this trip but I am very excited to stay in a "local" quainter hotel that serves breakfast, is near to the popular attractions and public transportation. I have narrowed it down to these 2 from reading many trip reports and posts. Does anyone have a preference or another suggestion? thank you!

We stayed at Hastel a few years ago. It was comfortable, well managed, good breakfast and a short walk from the main square, but away from the tourist crush. Also a short walk to the tram line that goes by Metro stops and to the train station. I believe it was recommended in the RS guidebook. I would book there again if the opportunity arose. I believe they preferred cash for payment - at the time.

Edited to add: Be sure to look at the Living Prague web site, which has helpful info for navigating the city. Also, I highly recommend that you consider one of Jason's walking tours.

We also stayed there in 2014 and loved it. Short walk to the main square.

We stayed at Hotel Residence Agnes in August of 2019. Absolutely loved the hotel !!!! The people are wonderful. When we stayed there they had a driver that would take you anywhere you needed to go including picking us up at Train station at beginning and to and from when we took 2 day trips out of the city, one way either to or from airport was included, made dinner reservations for you and had awesome breakfast. The other great thing is they had beer, wine and sodas included at all hours. Would highly recommend.
Also if you are looking for private walking tours Prague Walks from RS book was great as well. We did 2 different 4 hour tours with the same guide.

Hotel Residence Agnes is one of the top five hotels we have enjoyed during our years of travel overseas. Frank and his team are absolutely amazing, and they have mastered the art of hospitality. Everyone goes out of their way to ensure that you have a memorable stay. They will provide you with a terrific breakfast, book dinner reservations, arrange for transportation and tours, have drinks and snacks available at all times of the day, do your laundry....and the list goes on and on. One night, a team member walked us to our restaurant, as it was a bit out of the way and they wanted to make sure that we found the place. On the day we left, they provided us with snacks for our journey. Our room was on the top floor, tucked away a bit from the others. The hotel could be the poster child for how to treat its guests. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

If you are looking for other things in Prague, I can suggest that you check out Pavel Batel's tours. We traveled with Pavel to Terezin, and we also took the Jewish Prague tour with one of his associates. Both were well worth the time, as they are passionate and knowledgeable guides. http://jewish-prague-tours.com/tours

Stayed in Hotel Residence Agnes for 4 nights a few weeks ago. It was fantastic. Beautiful hotel, great location, great breakfast and the nicest most involved and helpful hotel owner I have ever seen. The owner drove me one morning up to the castle and a few days later to the airport. Both for no charge. I did not ask for the rides he offered and would not accept any tip. It is an amazing hotel and you cannot go wrong staying there.

The two hotels are very near each other, with Agnes a bit further away from the hustle and bustle of old town. Hotel Hastel is just fine. Residence Agnes is amazing. Best customer service I have ever experienced. Amazingly breakfast, comfy rooms, nice quiet street and if you stay more than a few days they include one airport transfer. They people who work their are some of the nicest I met in Prague.
