Hotel Josef versus Hotel Agnes

My husband and I will be in Prague for nights at the end of July. We are split between Hotel Josef or Hotel Agnes. He likes modern design and is awed by the prospects of the bakery next to Hotel Josef whereas I am impressed by the customer service reviews for Hotel Agnes. I also value cleanliness and prefer to be within walking distance or near transit for sight seeing.

We travel frequently, but this will be our first visit to Prague and this will be our last stop on a 3 week trip through Central Europe (Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Cesky Krumlov, then Prague).

This forum member recommends that every husband should listen to his wife in such matters.

That sage advice, aside and not having stayed at either, just looking at location and reviews and reading abouy style ... i'm old school, Agnes wins. But I will still return to the Ventana Hotel when I go back .... probably.

Hotel Agnes...hands down! Frank and his team are spectacular in every way! Our room was on the top floor; tucked away in a corner and it was terrific. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Prague.

I have stayed at neither. Is there a major difference in pricing? I do currently have a reservation to stay at Hotel Agnes. And for me, it is a splurge. But this hotel has the most amazing hotel reviews I have ever seen with people repeatedly saying it is the finest hotel experience they have ever had because the service is so over-the-top.

I have rarely seen Trip Advisor ratings like these for the Hotel Agnes--especially at this price point:
Excellent--4,671
Good--114
Fair--16
Poor--2
Terrible--2

Do you think these reviews are Bots or are circumspect and that I should be leery of the Agnes??

I have no reason to believe that this hotel's reviews and grades on Trip Advisor are "funny." I have several times in the past posted on Trip Advisor a restaurant review, and there was no alteration in what I wrote or what my grades were.

I find Trip Advisor hotel reviews to be grossly accurate--that is, hotels where the excellent grades are several times greater than the good grades are normally very good properties. Here, the ratio of excellent to good grades is an extraordinary 40 to 1.

And google Rick Steves Forums and Hotel Agnes, and see what has been said about the hotel on the RS forums. The comments are universally glowing (and there is a review above from TravelBug79). Again, I have reservations at the Hotel Agnes (and had them in October for a trip I had to cancel) and look forward to staying there.

There are surely a number of great hotels in Prague. If modern design and a bakery next to the hotel are huge factors for your family, go for it. My impression is that the Hotel Agnes is not the Ritz in Paris or the Goring in London--it is not a five-star hotel. With its physical facilities, it may barely be a four-star property. But based on what I have read, it offers six-star service. What other hotels at its rates pick up guests free of charge from the airport and train station?
