On Sept. 26, 2014 we will be driving to Zagreb from Ljubljana and need to get to Budapest. We were planning on leaving our
car at the airport in Zagreb. Renting car from Sixt Auto, can we leave it anywhere closer to the border....Then rent a car in
Hungary to get to Budapest. The train from Zagreb to Budapest takes some 6 1/2 hrs. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Victoria
I assume you're driving in order to make more stops between these major cities. Just to get between the cities, trains work well and are pretty cheap. The direct train from Zagreb to Budapest takes 6.5 hours, during which you can stroll the aisles, use the restroom, and bring books and picnic items onboard. Tickets cost about $50 per person in 2nd class when you buy them locally. In comparison, driving takes at least 4 hours, plus time to navigate a new city, gas for the trip costs about €40 per www.viamichelin.com, and there are extra fees if you drop the car in a different country than pick-up.
