Zagreb Croatia Rental car

Hello all,
going through Croatia in September 2024. I want to rent a car in Zagreb and drop off in Dubrovnik. Would like to know fellow Rick Steve's traveler's recommendations for car rental companies in Zagreb. Price, drop off at hotel, nice car, great service, no bickering about dents that were already on the car. Travelers gave great advice for Greece, now looking for similar advice for Croatia. Also, you can tell me the bad rental car companies to stay away from.....
thanks,
David

I had a great experience in 2021 with a pick up in Dubrovnik and drop off in Split through UniRent. Last time I checked, they also have a Zagreb office but I haven’t used it.

We use Sixt or Carwiz in Croatia. Definitely take pictures of any scratch or dent on the car before signing papers. We had an issue last year at drop off saying we scratched the car. We paid the fee (didn’t want to miss our flight) but, we had pictures to show it was there already. A quick email with the pictures with a date stamp and we had our refund and an apology pretty quick. Some people take videos also but pictures are easier to pull up and send off if need be.

One bit of advice, check where the pickups and drop offs are located. Some are not at the Zagreb Airport, and some are located in Gruz which is a quick taxi ride from Dubrovnik’s old town. Not a problem, just be aware so you’re not surprised and might have to factor in some extra time.

Sep 2013, we used Uni-Rent with p/u in Zagreb suburb and drop off in Dubrovnik just outside walls. Good rates and rented to us seniors. Nice clean late model car. No problems. They can provide a meet & greet airport p/u and a drop off point at DBV airport. We visited in Zagreb before car p/u near our apartment. Dropped off car soon at Dubrovnik as not needed and parking limited. There is a regular bus to airport or lots of taxis. Yes, always pix of car exterior and any interior problems.

Better than pictures is video tape. We video taped the car we rented from Sixt in Austria. When we dropped off they said there was a lot of damage and wanted to charge us a ton of money. We showed them the video tape and voila! the damage was on there so we were all good. Not sure a picture would have shown the damage since we didn't even notice it ourselves. We'd rent from Sixt again based on this experience.
