We are a family of 5 - three girls ages 20, 16 and 13 plus my husband and I. We will be flying into Dubrovnik on June 28, staying for three nights, departing on July 1. We have never been - my 20 year old has been studying in Florence for the past 5 months and is insistent that we MUST see Dubrovnik and Split. Wondering where, in Dubrovnik, we should stay? Looking at AirBNB's, but don't know what part of the city we should try to stay in. My husband is thinking we will rent a car so we can make day trips to Split (and elsewhere?). We really want to explore the culture of Croatia. I think that would be the number one criteria - with the beach being a close second (at least for the girls). Thanks!
Since it is over 4 hours - one way - from Dubrovnik to Split, a day trip is a bad idea.
thank you!
Should we consider staying outside of Dubrovnik? So we can access other points of interest? Or stay in Dubrovnik and take shorter trips? Other beaches available by bus? Flying blind here... But trying to do as much research as possible to make an informed decision!
The walled city is very compact but it's also very easy to get around Dubrovnik by local bus, so it doesn't really matter if you stay within the walls or not. Obviously if you have a rental car, you may even want to consider staying in Cavtat which is more low-key and still close by. Montenegro makes for a good short trip. Split is about 4 hours away or so.
