What to do in Hvar

Hello,

My wife and I will have 2 full days in Hvar at the end of May and are looking for suggestions on how to spend our time (we won’t have a car). Unfortunately the Secret Hvar off road tour is booked when we will be there. The first day we will spend walking around Hvar (from what’s mentioned in the book) and just relaxing. We enjoy hiking, wine tastings, beautiful scenery & exploring different areas off the beaten path. We looked into the Secret Hvar wine tour but it’s from 5-9pm and we would rather do something like that during the day. We also looked at RS recommendation on going to Pakleni Islands, has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance!
Adam

I am not sure that trips to the Pakleni Islands will be running so early in the season.

You could hire a car for a day on Hvar. It's a great place to explore and there is so much more to it than just Hvar town. I much prefer the north of the island. You could drive down the backbone of the island to Sucuraj, exploring the small coves en route.

If you don't have a car, you could take a bus to the pretty Stari Grad and after exploring here, then walk on the World Heritage Site of Hvar Plain to Vrboska, a mini Venice then either continue on to Jelsa or get a bus back from Vrboska.

Jennifer,

How long is the bus ride from Hvar town to Stari Grad?

Thanks,

Cindy

I think the bus is about 20-30 minutes. Check buscroatia, com.

I have always had a hire car on Hvar and haven't used the buses.

I was there in late May several years back and the day boats to the Pakleni islands were running. That would be my #1 recommendation if the weather is good. I have never been to Stari Grad, but that would be my backup--there may be a bike path along the coast from there, something to look into.
One day we walked along the coast to Milna where we planned to take the bus back but were faffing about a bit and probably missed it. A nice man and his son gave us a ride--lovely Croatian hospitality. The walk was scenic.

Thanks everyone! If the weather is nice we will go to Pakleni Islands and follow Rick Steves recommendations for the visit there.
