Visiting Zagreb and need suggestions for a senior citizen

I am visitin Zagreb with a tour group for 2 days - they will take me to the standard tourist places in both Upper and Lower Zagreb. However, I will be there on my own for a half day and wondering if there are "backdoor" places I should visit that won't be on my tour. I am 77 and can walk for short distances and will probably be out in the morning and looking for a good lunch spot. I am staying at the Hotel Dubrovnik - Any recommendations things to do close to the hotel or within easy tramrides?

We were there in Fall 2022, on an OAT tour, and stayed at Hotel Dubrovnik. It's very central - lots of shops and restaurants close to the hotel, and the main square - Jelačić Square - is right out the door. It's the major "meeting place" in the city, so you could be pretty entertained just people watching there if the weather is OK, or hanging out in a cafe.

We were there on All Saints Day, so many places were closed. And keep in mind that the city was/is still recovering from a massive earthquake, which also has closed some spots (ex. the Zagreb Cathedral). Walking in some areas might be a challenge, with crumbling sidewalks and construction.

There is a very nice park, Park Zrinjavic, nearby. The zoo was also recommended, easily accessed by tram. You should check with your guides, I am sure they will have recommendations as well!

Nothing specific, and a two tour day tour will probably take you there, but the area around the National Theatre is really nice. In summer, there’s a neighborhood food truck/music thing going on in Muzuranic (sic) Square. Honestly, Zagreb is just a great city to wander around and explore. It’s a fascinating mix of old Hapsburg elegance and Socialist architecture. It’s a fun, lively city, and if you get tired of wandering around there’s seemingly always a primo coffee & ice cream within arm’s reach.

You might enjoy the museum of broken relationships. Curious and interesting. Right at the top of the funicular.
