Visiting Rovinj

Hi,
I will be visiting Croatia with my wife, Rovinj to be precise, from August 1th - 10th driving from Italy.
I would like to find accommodation in a quiet place and found out the MyIstria website. These villas in Rovinj look awesome and not so expansive. Is there any experience with accommodation booking via MyIstria website?

Furthermore, which interesting places near Rovinj can you recommend? We would like to see everything but time is limit.

Thank you ! :)

I stayed in Rovinj itself and used public transportation to visit Porec (very colorful architecture, different from Rovinj) and the small hilltop town of Vrsar on the way. I did not go to Pula, which has some Roman ruins. I really wanted to see some of the old inland towns rather than sticking only to the coast. I found a once-a-week Inland Istria bus tour that got me to Motovun and Groznjan, a couple of other places and a winery (of no interest to me, but the others enjoyed it). You might be able to get to either Motovun or Groznjan by public bus, but in 2015 it was not possible to reach both on the same day. Those two towns are very small; neither is an all-day destination. Porec would be nice for half a day including lunch, just for walking around. I visited an old church; don't know whether there are any other sights of significant interest.

Driving distances in Istria and Kvarner are very short, so easy to day trip in the whole region. Please tell details of your interests for more exacting advice.

Thanks to the answers .. I love Roman ruins and such things and we will go to Pula to see the Arena (Tom Jones has a concert on August 2nd and we do not want to miss it ;)) Motovun also sounds nice and looks great on the photos.

Please tell me more about the winery. Is it a some famous winery or just local with excellent wines? (I like them both)

I'm sorry; I have no clue since I don't drink wine. It was a winery in the interior of Istria. Perhaps there's only one and you can find it by Googling, or maybe someone here has sought out wine sites in that area.

They also find truffles in Istria, by the way. Unfortunately, summer isn't harvest season, and my research indicated that the canned/jarred truffles are a poor substitute for fresh ones. Should you be ttempted, however, you'll find the prices lowest at a (small) supermarket like Billa. I found the very same brand the tourist and gourmet shops were selling for considerably less at a Billa in Zagreb.

I've never tried truffles, but I'll look for them in Billa.

Thanks for information and advice ;)

I visited Rovinj as a kid with my family and I remember it being a very popular scuba and snorkel destination. I know you said your time is limited, but I would recommend setting aside time to get in the water. Have fun!
