Venice to Croatia

Am planning trip through Italy and western Balkan countries in spring (2015). Trying to get from Venice to Croatia. Having trouble finding ferry schedules (want to leave Venice on April 15 - could delay or go earlier by a day or two). Most ferries not running then. Is it possible to take train from Venice to Ljubijana, Slovenia? Or bus? Debated about renting a car, but don't want to come back to return car. Any advice from anyone? Thanks so much!

There is a ferry from Venice to Rovinj in Croatia, in April probably not going every day. It is possible that there could be a ferry to some other destination in Croatia, too. For train to Ljubljana look at Deutsche Bahn website.

Mary, we took the same trip in 2013. We were travelling at the very end of April, on the first weekend that the ferries began to run for the season ( and at that time, there were only running on the weekends until later in May). We had confirmed tickets, and had printed them out as per instructions and brought them with us. When we got to the terminal in Venice to board the ferry, we found out that due to small group of people, they were not going to run the ferry, but take us by bus. It was an easy bus ride with one refreshment stop. Some of the scenery was quite beautiful too. I would save the hassle of the care and just take the bus. Bus was comfortable, new and not crowded as it carried no local people... only those going to Croatia. It stopped in both Porec and another seaside town whose name I can't remember now. You could probably google the bus schedule and find what you are looking for. Have fun, Croatia is beautiful and the people are lovely.

That sounds like my solution, Lisa. It was not a charter bus they put you on, was it? Thanks!

Lisa, do you recall how long it took you to get to Porec on the bus?
