We would like to go and rent a house and really experience one area in Croatia.
Where would you suggest we go. We love the beach. We would love a beautiful place on the water, with a very quaint town.
Would suggest either Istria - Porec or Rovinj - lots to do, great beaches, can even take a speedboat to Venice for a day; or Split which also has great beaches, just further down the coast.
All that what you want I found in Korcula. Most beaches in Croatia are pebbles. But there is a sandy beach short ride by bus from Korcula. Go to Lumbarda all the way to the end where the bus turns around and then it's about 5 minutes walk to the nice sandy beach.
We loved the island of Brac; iconic beaches, great day trip opportunities and beautiful villages.
We stayed in Podgora twice, but it has been 5-7 years ago. We had a car to get around. We went by car to Dubrovnik, Split and up into the mountains and surrounding areas. Took a boat trip to Korcula out of Podgora and the Ferry with the car to Hvar from Drvenik (7-8ks south) and drove across the island to the city. Podgora had pretty much everything you needed for restaurants and groceries and nice pebbled beaches. There was a large Super Konzum Market about 5ks to the north in Makarska too. We stayed at these apartments a few years ago and would recommend them: Alida Radojkovic (Owner) speaks English and her place is highly recommended by most online sites: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p6052077
