One thing to be aware of - in the Balkans, esp Croatia and Bosnia-Herzogovenia, wandering in the woods can be a problem. There are still mines from the war. Be cautious in planning such excursions. I'd get a local guide who is VERY familiar with locations that are and are not safe.

I believe you should find a guide and understand that truffle hunting is highly regulated in Croatia. We heard a lot from a local in Motovun about truffles.

Looking for similar info. We'll be there the first week in October and would like to find a guide to take us hunting for truffles. If anyone has experience with a specific guide or tour company or location, we'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Thank you folks. Wouldn't dream of going out by myself. Found a Buzet tour and travel company with several solutions to make my truffle dreams come true! Maybe others can use the info: www.istrianatravel.hr
