Trip Planning Recommendations

Hi, can you please review proposed my itinerary and let me know if you have any suggestions? Is it practical to rent a car at the Ljubljana airport and drive roundtrip through Italy, Croatia and back to Slovenia during the two week trip. Also, do you have any hotel/Pension recommendations for Rovinj? Thanks!

10/1 -Depart U.S.(overnight flight to Venice)
10/2 - Arrive Venice, GoOpti to Ljubljana airport, pickup Avis Preferred car rental (sleep Lake Bled)
10/3 - Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Vintgar Gorge (sleep Lake Bled)
10/4 - Drive the Soča River Valley
, Vršič Pass, sleep Kobarid or Ljubljana? (note Open Market* on Friday’s!)
10/5 - Panorama road, LJ Sat Market Day (sleep Lj)
10/6 - Travel to Venice (kids arrive @ 6:45pm) (sleep Venice)
10/7 - Venice (overnight or depart afternoon to Rovinj
10/8 - Drive thru Piran to Istria or Škocjan Caves
(sleep in Rovinj)
10/9 - Tour Istria (sleep in Rovinj, Pula, Motovun)
10/10 - Drive to Plitvice Lakes thru Istria (sleep in Plitvice)
10/11 - Hike the Plitvice Lakes* early, Drive to Ljubljana-Open Kitchen in Ljubljana
10/12 - Kids depart Ljubljana @ 5pm, (sleep Ljubljana or Bled?)
10/13 -Kids depart Zurich-11:45am, GoOpti to Venice (sleep?)
10/14 - Depart Venice @ 12:25pm

Sorry, but this looks like utter h*ll to me--however, I recognize some like to travel far more intensively than I do. I do heartily suggest you map the drive times and evaluate the pace based on your own stamina.
It does seem a shame to backtrack. When you say "kids" are you talking about literal kids or adult kids--i.e., could they hop on a ferry in Venice and meet you in Rovinj?

Thanks Valadelphia, my adult “kids” are arriving in Venice. Unfortunately, the two ferry boats from Venice to Rovinj discontinue service on the dates we’re traveling. So, I’m planning to drive or take GoOpti to Venice. Thanks

You could have your adult kids take the train from Venice to Trieste, which is right on the border of Italy and Slovenia and pick them up there. There are several a day and many are only 2 hours long travel time..
