Anyone have any experience traveling from Split to Plitvice by bus. We will be bringing LUGGAGE to stay overnight and move on from there to Lake Bled. Was wondering if the bus has many stops and therefore takes a great amount of time. Any other economical options or thoughts are appreciated. I love this forum stuff! Thanks
I've taken the bus from Zagreb to Plitvice but not from Split. Inter-city buses have luggage holds, so stowing your luggage will not be a problem. As of 2015 it was standard to be charged the equivalent of about $1 for each piece of luggage placed in the hold; if the driver or another employee of the bus company asks for that sort of payment, it is not a scam.
I can't tell you how many stops there will be. You should be able to find schedules online by Googling something like bus Split to Plitvice.
rome2rio can tell you how many stops there - I dont know how accurate they are but those listed looks reasonable for a random choice I made. There are probably express buses too https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Split/Plitvice-Lakes-National-Park#r/Bus/s/0 Takes about 1/2 hour longer than a car.
We rented a car one way from Dubrovnik to Split and it was a piece of cake! We used Sixt at the Rixos hotel, very accessible from anywhere in Dubrovnik. We had rented a car for a day from them in order to go to Bay of Kotor in Montenegro and found the freedom and ease to be what we needed and so we immediately reserved a car for our drive to Split and made stops along the way. Definitely recommended!
Advice: Get a $20 Triple A international driver’s license, it’s immediately recognized.
Let the rental agency know which countries you’ll pass through (Montenegro, Bosnia, etc) so they can prepare the paperwork.
Rent a car with an automatic transmission for the extra money if you aren’t comfortable with a manual transmission.
Enjoy!
