Travel from Ravenna, Italy to Opatija, Croatia

I'm trying to find bus/train transportation from Ravenna, Italy to Opatija, Croatia in April and would like to complete the trip in one day. However, I'm having trouble finding a good option. Considering going from Ravenna to Trieste, staying overnight, and then taking a bus to Opatija the next day as an alternative.

Any suggestions?

How about a ferry? Not sure what all of your options are, and there are fewer in April, but there are ferries between Venice and towns in Istria e.g. Porec or Rovinj or Pula. You could then take a bus on from there. I don't know if there are any ferries directly from Italy to Rijeka, but that would be optimal of course.

Another option is to take the train from Ljubljana to Rijeka, which is really close to Opatija (there is a train stop called "Opatija" but it's not close to the town - you could presumably take a taxi from there though or a bus from Rijeka to Opatija). Working backwards, you could get to Ljubljana from Ravenna by train or by a Slovenian shuttle service like GoOpti. It's a long train ride to Ljubljana from Ravenna with at least on connection, but you could take the train to Venice Mestre and a bus or GoOpti from there on to Ljubljana. You COULD possibly work that out as one long day, but staying over in Ljubljana (which is a lovely town) would make it easier of course. There is at least one direct train a day from Ljubljana to Rijeka, sometimes two depending on the season.

The ferries go from Venice so you would have to get there first, don’t know how that is. We have taken the ferry from Venice to Rovinj then bus to Rijeka. It is a long trip. Anyway, I would look into taking the train to Trieste then hire a driver. It’s only about an hour from Trieste to Opatija. Good luck.

We just took this exact route last month! I looked up every single travel option available and we settled on hiring a private transfer using My Daytrip that picked us up at the cruise port in Ravenna and dropped us off at the car rental in Opatija. For us, it was cheaper for 4 of us than flights that connected and got us there quicker. It took around 5.5 hours and we could stop whenever we wanted (we did a short stop for bathrooms and another short stop for gas). I would highly recommend doing this option if you want to get there quickly. We also considered overnight ferries from Ancona-Split, ferries from Venice-Istria, flights from every city in northern or central Italy to any airport in Croatia, train/rental car or bus combo, bus, and one-way car rental. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Thanks so much, it looks like you figured it out! Can you tell me what the cost was for the private car to Opatija?
