Travel from Dubrovnik to Trebinje to Kotor

We are going from Dubrovnik to Kotor. I am wondering if anyone has experience in detour to Trebinje. Crossing the border etc. I realize it's two border crossings? Worth it not.

For how long? A day trip? I dont think after Dubrovnik that Kotor is worth the effort for a day trip. Understand that if I were offered 15 days, all paid in Croatia or 5 daysdays, all paid in Montenegro, I would choose Montenegro. But a day trip to Kotor? No. Maybe Perast with a boat trip to the islands and dinner on the bay.

I made the drive down to Kotor from Dubrovnik and found it enjoyable. East border crossing, took 5 minutes each way. It was interesting in Kotor and the beautiful bay.

Would you be planning to visit Tvrdos Monastery? I've not been there, but I've heard about it before and it sounds very nice. From Google maps it doesn't look like it adds much driving time but I can't say how accurate those estimates are. When we visited Montenegro we flew into Dubrovnik airport and the border crossing was basically just a one minute brief pause to show our passports. We recently did the same to visit Bosnia and the crossing from Croatia to Bosnia was also just a brief pause- in which case, I don't think border crossings will add much time.
