My husband and I are planning to visit Croatia this October. We were wondering if it is possible to drive from Croatia to Greece along the Adriatic coastline. We would not be traveling back to Italy. We know there would be a drop fee for the rental car. Though, we were wondering if it is even possible to drive cross boarder through all of the countries. All suggestions are very appreciated.
Most car rental companies in Croatia will not allow a one-way rental going to Greece. If you can find one the cost is so prohibitive that few would consider it.
Moreover, the weather on the Adriatic beginning in October is not conducive to a road trip as the high winds of the Bura and rainy conditions prevail.
Call Autoeurope — get this sorted with real info from car providers before getting too far on your destination planning.
How long do you have? I’ve read of some doing car leases when the trip is several weeks.
If you spell out exactly what you want and all details (how long, arrival and departure—already booked? Plus exactly what you want to include), we can provide workaround suggestions, but I would first clarify your options with a car rental company.
Where would you begin your journey in Croatia and what coastal places would you stop if traveling from Croatia to Greece? Where do you want to end your sight-seeing adventures in Greece?
This is all such good information! Thank you! I just love this forum.
I guess we won’t be trying to drive from Croatia to Greece. Though, I would love to hear suggestions about other possibilities. We will have ~ 7/8 days total. We will be coming from Venice and want to end in Greece.
We are thinking to take a ferry from Venice to Croatia. We won’t have a rental car with us yet. Then, spend the 3/4 days along the Adriatic coast line. We would like to end in Greece. Spend a day in Athens. And, would have an additional 3/4 days. We were thinking to take an 3/4 day island hopping cruise of the Greek isles.
My husband and I are in good physical shape, though he will be 3 months post knee replacement surgery. So, probably no hiking or steep stair climbing on this trip. We would like to see scenic, quaint coastal towns. We do plan to rent a car.
There is a ferry you can take from the San Basilio Terminal on the lagoon in Venice to Rovinj, Croatia. Coastal towns worth stopping from Croatia to Greece are: Dubrovnik, Croatia / Kotor, Montenegro / Dhërmi, Albania.

I can think of so many options, but none of them would include covering this much ground. Especially with some knee issues, I’d slow down a bit. A week is barely enough time for just Istria!
If the Croatian start point is Dubrovnik and the Greek End point is Corfu, and the time is 8 days; yes, I might know how to do it. But you aren't the driver. I doubt it will cost more than a one way rental if that were even possible. To be fair, its a trip I would love. Let me know if you remain serious about it.
