Transportation from Bari Italy to Croatia or Montenegro

Hi folks,

I am planning a vacation for May 2020 going from DFW to Rome and then on to Bari Italy. Our next stop is going to be in southern Croatia or Montenegro.

What I need are suggestions for how to get from Bari to Bar or Dubrovnik. I know there is an overnight ferry but it only runs once a week to Bar. And the ferry schedule for 2020 will not be posted for months.

So I have been trying to figure out air transport from Bari but it seems I will have to fly back to Rome to get to Croatia.

Anyone have experience with this rout or suggestions. Thanks

Well, in 2019, the ferry ran twice a week from Bari to Dubrovnik between mid-April and mid-May (Tue and Thur nights, arrive Friday morning) and then Thur and Saturday between mid-May and early June.

Don't know the 2020 schedule yet. You can either skip the ferry and just book a plane ticket from Rome...or be flexible and be able to change your itinerary closer to departure in case things change next year. I know we all have different travel preferences and styles. I am used to changing things up near the last minute, so this would be fine for me. Maybe not with you.

You can simply plan around a Tuesday night or Thursday night departure now...and what if it changes once you figure out the 2020 schedule? Either you leave Bari earlier or later or you book a closer-to-last minute flight out of Rome. You will probably know the 2020 ferry schedule at least a few weeks before departure. Booking a flight that late probably would still be an option.

Ferries from Bari to Dubrovnik runs more frequently, and they you can take a bus to Montenegro. Or maybe there's time to change your plan about Bari?

Thanks all for the quick responses.

I wish I could be flexible or wait for the 2020 ferry schedule but our plans include a night at GROTTA PALAZZESE near Bari which requires reservations well in advance. I also emailed the ferry company but they would only say "check back" closer to 2020.

I may just have to wing it.

Thanks again.

Check Volotea Airlines. They had a lot of flights arriving, departing to smaller cities in eastern Europe from Bari when we were there. Worth checking.

I am also traveling Bari to Dubrovnik in May and have wracked my brain on this. I took the overnight Jadrolinija ferry 10 years ago, we bought the next to the nicest room on the boat, and it was a sleepless night, and worn and not so clean. I presume they could have a new ship by now. That being said I have not been too anxious to do the ferry. I finally found affordable and reasonable time 5:20 flying Alitalia to Rome and Vueling Rome to Dubrovnik. Paying for economy which includes a checked roller bag about $130 total for both legs, purchasing this as 2 separate legs. The layover in Rome is 2:45, so plenty of time to get luggage and recheck on Vueling I hope.

Susan,

I have booked the overnight ferry from Beri to Dubrovnik. We have taken overnight trains before and it worked out fine. Hope this works as well.
