In Dubrovnik, I thought the Panorama restaurant atop Mt. Srd was absolutely worth the splurge. Service, food, and of course, the view were excellent. Frankly, compared to the restaurants in the old town the price seemed more than reasonable.
In Korcula, Boka Wine Bar had a great charcuterie plate. The owner is very friendly and passionate about what he does. Korcula on the whole felt like it was the most expensive town to eat that I visited.
In Ljubljana, Sokol looks like a tourist joint and largely is I guess, but the fun service and top notch food made me a believer. POP’s Burger Bar is a rollicking place on the river. Typically, a burger in Europe feels like a punt, but this is legit. Some of the best sweet potato fries I’ve had.
Generally, I had low expectations in an area so touristy, but I always ate quite well just maybe not spectacularly. I often went to RS recommendations which are usually solid. Like, the batting average was surprisingly good. Slovenia coffee is tops. Ice cream is king. If you told me Slovenians’ diet was 90% ice cream, coffee and cigarettes I’d believe you. They have a crazy idea what makes a good iced coffee though, it’s like a huge glass of cold milk on ice with a shot of coffee in it.
