Timing for Bus Tickets

How early should we buy inter-city bus tickets (e.g., Dubrovnik to Split, Zagreb to Rovinj)? We'll be in Croatia in mid-June. We'll have luggage, so we're hesitant to wait until the day before, just to be safe. Am I over thinking?

I have not taken a bus in Croatia, but have bought bus tickets on the day of travel in many other countries. I checked the upcoming edition of the Croatia book, and it still advises that a few hours or one day ahead is usually adequate. If you'll be in town two or three days ahead, then go for it, or if one travel agency can sell you both tickets, then great. I assume that it will be two different bus companies, since there are several.

We bought our tickets about a day ahead without any issue in mid-May. Mid-June is still shoulder season, so you should have a similar experience. There are a lot of busses between the major cities leaving at all hours of the day and night, so you have plenty of options. If you are already settled on your itinerary, you can buy the ticket when you arrive in town -- I wouldn't buy anything earlier than that however. Don't worry about buying online or buying when you are in a different city.
