Swimming in the Adriatic Sea

Hello. I noticed that we are advised to take a micro-fiber towel and swimsuit on the RS 15-day tour to Central Europe in about three weeks. That includes possible swimming in the Adriatic Sea, which we would like to do.
Is it really necessary to pack a towel? Couldn't we just use a towel from the hotel? Seems like unnecessary bulk to travel with. Any thoughts?

We took this tour several years ago. We swam two places-- Rovinj and Lake Bled. We packed no towels (we borrowed towels from the hotel in Rovinj and in Lake Bled we paid admission to a swimming area that had food and other amenities .) The place we stayed in Rovinj was a picturesque island-- as close to resort as we ever experienced on RS tour. I don't know if your tour will use the same place. But the day was labeled a vacation from your vacation.

It was lovely. But it was in July and quite warm. The beach was pebbly -- but manageable. I'm not sure of the water temperature this time of year.

Awesome tour! Our tour guide (Peter) was incredible.

Happy travels.

Yes, we were able to borrow towels from the tour hotel.

I’ve always just bought a beach towel there and ditched it when leaving the coast. But 100% make sure you have legit water shoes. Lots of rocks and sea urchins. I got Olukai water shoes and they’re awesome. They do double duty as casual deck shoes.

But be careful. In September I went to an Island off the coast of Zadar. Great water but you had to walk down steps to reach it. I slipped and grabbed a rail and tore a muscle out of my rotator cuff. I have about half of arm movement now.

Hi Margot, I swam at Korcula Island and just used the hotel towel. I purchased the inexpensive water shoes on Hvar Island (took a 1-day self detour), but they probably have them at all of the tourist cities near the beach. Enjoy!

They may change hotels but the one our RS tour used was Hotel Katarina. You might want to ask the RS office if it's the same one.

It's on a small island with a ferry to the old town. There is a nice swimming area on the island -- easy to wade in, pebbly though.

Happy travels.
