Staying in Split and want to take a day trip to see Krka waterfalls and go to a winery…tour guide?

There are 4 of us active seniors traveling and we’d like to possibly hire someone to take us from Split (where we are strin for a few nights) to the waterfalls and a winery afterwards. I looked into Toursbylocals but the cost was almost $2,000 for this day trip. Any other recommendations? Is this cost typical? Should we rent a car? We were also planning on getting a guide for a day trip at Hvar but not sure of costs. We really aren't interested in large group tours. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated!

That’s insane. Keep looking. I would not plan on driving if you wanted to taste wine without spitting. Maybe try the agencies listed on the tourist board website?

I’d just pop into a tourist office on Havr and see what’s on offer. A drive might be nice on the island as it is so scenic and traffic is not an issue.

We just popped into a tourist office and took a half day tour to Krka.
They provided transportation, dropped us off, and told us what time to meet at the bus. We walked around on our own.

That price is honestly ridiculous for a Split–Krka National Park day trip, even with a winery stop. You can definitely do way better than that. If you don’t want a big group tour (totally get that), I’d look for smaller private drivers/guides instead of those big platforms. A lot of them promote their services through social media, so it’s worth checking there. If you’re not into that, there’s one family-run option I’ve seen, MC Travel Croatia, they seem like a good fit for what you described. The driver is a licensed guide and has tons of experience, and I’ve seen them offer Split–Krka trips with flexible stops in places like Primošten and Trogir, which makes the day more relaxed. They use a comfortable van too (I remember something about a mini fridge, which is actually nice on a longer day). I checked their reviews on Tripadvisor through their page: mctravelcroaita.com and they had 5-star feedback, including a tour in Hvar, which is also something that you asked for. I’m not saying they’re the only option, but stuff like that should be way cheaper than what you were quoted, like seriously, probably a few times less when you split it between four people. Renting a car is also a solid backup if you’re comfortable driving, but if you want it easy and stress-free, a smaller private driver/guide is the sweet spot.
