We will be in Split in early May and wondering if a day trip to Hvar is a good option for one of our days. Thanks
Depends on what you like to do.
Hvar is first known for it's nightlife activity.
As a 50 year old, this is not my first objective when deciding on a place to visit.
it takes maybe 3 hours to visit the port area as well as walking up to the ruins of a castle, take pictures, relax, etc.
The problem for us is that we took the ferry(foot only, no car) with a round trip tickt bringing us there at 9-10am and coming back at 4pm . Too much time for us.
With a car, you can visit the rest of the island, which we didn't do. I guess we should have. Or just spent 3 hours would have been enough for us
There won't be much clubbing in Hvar town in early May. The problem is more likely to be what is open so early in the season and if the sea conditions are suitable for the catamaran to run.
A day trip to the island is certainly worthwhile and you could take the faster catamaran to Hvar town, look round here and then travel to Stari Grad to visit this charming harbour town, then take the slower ferry back to Split from Stari Grad.
A trip from Split to Trogir is also worthwhile.
