Rather than taking a ferry, we are thinking about a private charter to take us to Hvar from Split, with a stopover in Trogir and a bit of snorkeling in the Blue Cave/Bisevo. Is this a workable idea? Any recommendations/referrals to a charter? Thanks!

Many agencies in Split offer the option of renting a boat so you and your company can have privacy rather than going on a group tour. You are able to plan your own stops and time spent on each.
Keep in mind that it´s more expensive because the price must be covering the speedboat, fuel, and a licensed skipper.
If you decide to do so, I would recommend doing more island hopping.
Visit Hvar, Brač, and Biševo where the Blue Cave is situated. Keep in mind that the Blue Cave is only open in the morning and you are not allowed to swim inside.
On the other hand, Trogir is not far from Split so you can get there by car or do a half-day trip (visit Trogir, its old town and snorkel in the Blue Lagoon).
